How designers do their work

I've been working on a really exciting project that I finally start talking about. Over the last two months, I've been meeting with designers and design teams in San Francisco and New York City. We've been talking about their processes, what tools they use, and the skills they think are necessary for young designers to thrive in today's industry.

I've been meeting with an intentionally diverse mix of design shops from boutique agencies, to large agencies, to software startups, to established software companies to see if there is any differences in their approach. I'll be sharing more insights as I parse through all the data but for now, I want to publicly thank all the organizations that took part. In the coming months, I'll be talking to more teams in the Midwest. I'm curious to see if there are any differences here versus the coasts. My extremely talented participants were really insightful and have some great ideas about design :
