Four-year-old operating systems

At today's WWDC Keynote, Tim Cook mentioned that a lot of Android users are still using a version of the OS from 4 years ago. I can't believe that. Can you imagine using iOS from 4 years ago? For fun, I looked up what the big features of iOS 4 were. I couldn't believe that some of these things weren't introduced until 4.0:

  • It was the first version called iOS instead of iPhone OS
  • Unified mail inbox (!)
  • Spellcheck
  • Voice control (pre-Siri)
  • Customizable wallpaper
  • Multitasking (finally!)

WWDC 2014 Announcements

The things I'm most excited about from Apple's announcements today:

  1. iCloud Drive
  2. HomeKit
  3. Family sharing
  4. Handoff/Airdrop between iOS and OSX
  5. Interactive notifications
  6. All the dev tools that will lead to more and better apps! (I don't know what most of them do but I think it will lead to good things)
  7. QuickType (but not custom keyboards)
